Who is Sean Johnson?

Born and raised in Northern New Jersey, Sean Johnson is a working artist who strives to encourage artistry in any way possible. Whether it’s music directing, accompaniment, arranging, or performing.

Music Direction

Music directing has always been my first love. Starting in my second year of college, working with artists to cultivate a musical experience that they can be proud of was a dream come true. Engaging with artists of all ages and experience levels has always been a gift of mine. I’ve been so fortunate to have many meaningful opportunities, such as helping to found a community theatre for high schoolers, assistant music direct at my college, play in pits at a professional level, and help reinstate a collegiate a cappella group. Creating more experiences like these for myself and those I work with is what I hope to continue to accomplish with my time on this earth.

Vocal Coaching

After being a self taught pianist for the first five years of my accompaniment journey, I sought out lessons from the best. To become the most reliable collaborative artist I could be, I’ve studied under incredible teachers such as Tom Parente and Virginia (Ginny) Stephens. This has only deepened my love of playing for singers. Having studied classical voice for four years and being a singer myself, I am dedicated to creating fun and exciting art that allows singers to be proud of the work we produce at all points in their vocal journeys.

Performance

Performing as always been a large part of my life, and it has allowed me to pursue my true passion in a more authentic manner. By performing, I not only give myself the opportunities I strive to create for others, but I actively betray the phrase, “If you can’t do it, teach it”. Being artist requires creating art as well, and as much as I love to collaborate, the betterment of my own capabilities is a love that deserves my care and attention.
